Update at September 2006

YWC GOES TO UNIVERSITY

YORK WORKPLACE CHAPLAINCY has been invited to help the chaplaincy and spiritual care team at York St John University College for the next several months.

Their full time Anglican chaplain Jem Clines is on secondment under a government funded project looking at how multi faith chaplaincy is developing in Higher Education across the country.

While he is doing this Chris Cullwick is supporting the chaplaincy on a part time basis until April 2007

York Workplace Chaplaincy inspires the new Archbishop !!

Archbishop Sentamu said, "The York Diocese is full of contrasts and this amazing, ancient City is one of its gems. It's a privilege for me to live here, and I'm really looking forward to seeing more of the City and its churches. I'm inspired by the creative work being done in this Deanery, including the Workplace Chaplaincy and the Spurriergate Centre, which are just two examples of the way the Church serves people in this time and this City. York and Yorkshire are giving me such a warm welcome - I want to meet as many local people as possible, thank them, and learn how we can get together to bring the joy and compassion of God to those around us."

Rev. Chris Cullwick of the York Workplace Chaplaincy and Robin Watson of Family Matters York, talking with Archbishop Sentamu at the Spurriergate Centre, during the introduction to City centre life which Chris helped to organise.

WELCOME TO NEW CHAPLAINCY STAFF

We extend a warm welcome to Anna Burr and Jim Harding, new members of the Chaplaincy Team who have joined us on placement for the next few weeks.

Anna Burr has joined the YWC team as part of her training for ordination in the Anglican Church. Currently a part time student with the Northern Ordination Course, studying for an M.A. in Theology and Pastoral Studies, Anna lives in York with her husband children. She has a degree in music and has worked in the UK and Europe, most recently at York Citizens Advice Bureau where she was an Advisor. In the more distant past she also worked at Terry's Chocolate Factory. She is concerned to help people find solutions to their problems and has supported many through difficult processes.

We also welcome Carrie Geddes in her role as Marketing Consultant, and hope that new members of the business community can be introduced to the benefits offered by the Chaplaincy.

We wish them all well in their new roles adn offer thanks for their support..

NEW RESEARCH PROJECT

Over the coming months the Chaplaincy is researching new areas of work, the results of which it is intended will benefit smaller companies in the local community and also other Industrial Chaplaincies around the country. We hope to make the outcome available later in 2006 or early in 2007. At this stage we wish to express sincere thanks to the Methodist Church Luton Fund and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation York Fund for their support of this project.

COUNSELLING

As part of our Counselling network provision we provide querstionaires and pre-paid envelopes will afford the opportunity for individual clients to give "anonymous" feedback on the service we offer. It also helps us to ensure standards remain at the highest level. One such response gave postive response to standard questions asked, and added

"The help and support I received from the Counselling and Chaplaincy was very

quick and professional. I felt listened to and valued. I very much appreciate the

                     help I received. Thank you"

TAKING THE LEAD

In January Colin led a day workshop on "Workplace Chaplaincy" as part of a North East Ordination Course week end in Durham.  Colin found it a very stimulating day greatly enhanced by  the breadth of workplace experience  of the ten students and the lively contributions that all made to the day.

Quotes from the students included;

....we had an opportunity to discuss the issues that were confronting those of us in the seminar in our respective work situations. Learning from each other with the guidance of an experienced chaplain.....

.... Good hand outs. Excellent sweets... [Quality Street]

....I think I had anticipated a more didactic approach but this was actually much better.....

So our experience is being passed on to the next generation.

Christmas Carols at Nestlé

Christmas 2005, and the first time we were able to work with the company and York Philharmonic Male Voice Choir to put on a Christmas Carol concert for staff.  The lunchtime event was enjoyed by more than a hundred employees.  The festive feel was further enhanced by the sale of some fine wooden gifts made by the Jennyruth workshops for adults with learning disabilities.
